Can you substitute bittersweet chocolate chips for semisweet chocolate chips?

Question by Wally West: Can you substitute bittersweet chocolate chips for semisweet chocolate chips?
Im making a cake and I just found out we don’t have semisweet chocolate chips. Can I use bittersweet chocolate chips instead?

Best answer:

Answer by Macchiato Junkie
Bittersweet is not as sweet as semi sweet so the cake will have a more adult appeal, otherwise there is no reason you couldn’t use the bittersweet chips. BTW-do not try to compensate for the sweetness by adding more sugar to the cake-this will make the chips seem even less sweet. You can, however, reduce the sugar in the cake by 1/4 cup which will make the difference not so noticeable.

Q&A: What kind of frosting should I make?

Question by curiousgirl07: What kind of frosting should I make?
Today is my sister-in-law’s birthday. My brother is making her a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting today. Over the weekend, we will be getting together to celebrate her birthday with her, and I am making cupcakes. My brother suggested that I make “something different,” but then told me I should make chocolate cupcakes because she really likes my chocolate cake. So I need a different kind of frosting. We do peanut butter frosting a lot, and I have made Oreo frosting lately. Any ideas for something new that would go well with chocolate? Thanks!

If you want to make “PURE CHOCOLATE” at home, you’ll have to define what you mean by that term.

If you want to make chocolate from beans, the link below gives directions.

If you want to make chocolate candy at home, you can do that with cocoa. Cocoa is basically chocolate beans that have been processed, with the fat removed. In the US, the standard of identity says that the fat in chocolate has to be cocoa butter, the fat that was removed from the beans. In Europe, they make phony chocolate by substituting other fats for the cocoa butter.

To make chocolate candy at home, mix cocoa, cocoa butter, sugar, and vanilla.

Do you have an easy recipe for an at-home chocolate fountain?

Question by SV: Do you have an easy recipe for an at-home chocolate fountain?
Every recipe I have tried doesn’t get the chocolate “thin” enough – my fountain starts churning and making funny noises. I need a smooth, thin chocolate sauce to coat strawberries and marshmallows. I am looking for something that contains “good” (not cheap) chocolate chips and maybe 1/2 and 1/2 or heavy cream. HELP!

Answer by gettingmarriedinnc
I just bought one and I’m sorry I haven’t used it yet but they said to use good chocolate and heat it up with oil in a microwave or pan first. Then put it in you fountain. They said the more coco that’s in the chocolate is better and makes it move smoother. I’m not sure of the exact measurements but I know that they said cups of oil. Let me know if this helps I hope so good luck.

Making Dirt Pie…?

Question by Sammy: Making Dirt Pie…?
Hi, I want to make “dirt pie” and have heard many variations on this recipe- some call for cream cheese and whip cream- is there a way to make it without… these are the ingredients I have…
can I do it with just these- and how?:

Oreos
Chocolate Ice cream
Chocolate pudding
Banana pudding
Flour
Sugar
marshmallows

Best answer:

Answer by Sugar PIe
Make your chocolate pudding according to package directions. Once it’s firm, stir in some marshmallows (about a cup)

Crush your oreos in a zipper bag.

In a pretty wine or martini glass, put a scoop of pudding mixture, then top w/ a spoonful of oreo crumbs. Add a gummy worm if you have some… 🙂
